My husband has been a Silver member with Continental, now United for 3 years now. He travels internationally every 6-8 weeks and tries to fly with United since it's his most convenient airline. I
was really upset to find out that once Continental turned into United his Silver status is mostly worth-
less, except for the additional 25% bonus miles he receives on qualified flights. I say "qualified"
because, I've made the mistake of booking him with a partner airline, thinking that he will receive miles, only to discover that he wouldn't because it was in a certain fare code. He can no longer take 2 suitcases with him on his international flight, but only 1. I think they have become very stingy and I have not been happy with them.
Can it get any worse?
Apparently YES.
I will be flying with my triplets internationally this summer (can't wait for London!) on United Airlines and we won't be able to board ahead of coach. Since the kids are 13 now, it's not such a big deal. But what if they were babies? United's new policy, since a month ago does not allow families traveling with children in coach to board ahead of coach travelers anymore.
The below video talks about the increased fees for baggage, seat assignments etc. and how they affect families.

You do understand that the difference now is that instead of boarding after all the elites and others who get priority boarding but before general boarding the kids just board with the regular groups, right?
ReplyDeleteIn other words, all the elites were already boarding ahead of families with small children. Instead of being between groups 5 and 6 in the list you now just board a part of groups 6, 7 or 8.
It really isn't that big of a difference.
Yes, I do understand. Because my triplets are older it won't affect me. But, for families traveling with 2 or more small children, it can make a HUGE difference. Just ask anyone that has traveled with a few small children, I'm sure they will agree.
